The U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) celebrated a banner year in 2024, with record-breaking visitor numbers reaffirming its position as a leading Caribbean destination. The Territory’s proactive strategies, bolstered by increased air connectivity and cruise tourism, attracted unprecedented numbers of travelers.
The USVI achieved a historic milestone on December 28, 2024, with 4,606 visitors arriving in a single day, surpassing the previous record set in March. This feat contributed to a weekly arrival total of over 24,000 visitors, marking a 5.92% increase over the prior record.
Air travel soared, with Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas and Henry E. Rohlsen Airport in St. Croix handling 932,265 passenger arrivals—a 16.5% increase compared to 2023. March 2024 saw a monthly peak of 106,026 arrivals, highlighting the sustained popularity of the islands throughout the year.

Cruise passenger arrivals reached an impressive 1,770,922 in 2024, reflecting a 9.8% year-over-year increase. Major milestones included maiden voyages from high-profile cruise lines such as Scarlet Lady, Icon of the Seas, and Disney Treasure, among others. This influx was facilitated by the USVI’s investment in port infrastructure and partnerships with global cruise operators.
Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boschulte attributed the record-breaking year to the Territory’s commitment to enhancing its appeal through targeted marketing and industry collaboration. “As a destination, we continue to explore, elevate and improve,” he stated, emphasizing the Department of Tourism’s role in driving growth.

Looking ahead, the U.S. Virgin Islands is poised to build on its 2024 achievements. Commissioner Boschulte expressed optimism about the future, stating, “We will continue to push creative marketing initiatives to keep the U.S. Virgin Islands top of mind for global audiences.”
